There are wines you can simply trust. Not because their labels promise what’s inside — but because you know the people behind them. Robert Goldenits senior and junior are such people. And TETUNA is their promise in a bottle.
We were at their wine festival in Tadten. We tasted, laughed, listened. And we drove home wishing we could soon pour these wines for our own guests. That wish has now come true.
The Heideboden — Pannonia in a glass
Tadten lies in southern Burgenland, east of Lake Neusiedl, where Austria slowly gives way to the Hungarian plain. The landscape is flat and wide, of a calm grandeur. The Pannonian climate is palpable here: hot, dry summers, little rainfall, intense sunshine. The Heideboden appellation covers this unique zone — and its soils, gravelly and sandy in places, heavy black earth with a high clay content in others, shape every drop that grows here.
The Goldenits estate is a family business through and through. Robert Goldenits senior built it up with the aim of giving the Heideboden a voice of its own in the Austrian wine landscape. His son Robert junior carries that idea forward — modern, open-minded, without forgetting where he comes from. Together they craft wines that are elegant without being austere. Harmonious, without trying to please.
The white wines mature almost exclusively in stainless steel on the fine lees — fresh, varietal, lively. The reds spend their time exclusively in French barriques: structured, stable, built to age. A clear philosophy, consistently executed.
TETUNA — the historic name for Tadten
First mentioned in records in 1230, the name Tetuna carries the history of this village in every bottle. It is not just a label — it is a statement of place. Three wines, one place, one family.
A white wine that breathes the Heideboden. Raised in stainless steel and matured on the fine lees for months, it keeps a freshness that is far from a given in this region. The aromatics are inviting, the palate clean and balanced — a wine for unwinding, not for brooding.
A powerful cuvée from the estate’s varieties — not a pale summer rosé but a real character. Luminous in colour, with depth of fruit on the palate. Strawberry and cherry arrive straight away, and the finish stays pleasantly long. A rosé with poise.
This is where the Heideboden shows what it can really do. The red Tetuna cuvée unites Pannonian ripeness with fine barrique ageing — spicy, powerful, with a silkiness on the palate that you look for in Burgenland reds and rarely find this beautifully. Tannin present, but never hard. A red for long evenings.
An evening in Tadten — and a friendship
We didn’t come to Goldenits through a price list. We were at the Tetuna wine festival in Tadten. In the middle of the Heideboden, somewhere between vine rows and cellar lane, we experienced Robert senior and junior — as hosts, as storytellers, as people you simply listen to.
We loved the festival. Not for the setting alone — but for the atmosphere that arises when people truly love their place and let you feel it. The Goldenits family can do that. You don’t just drink their wine; after a few hours you also understand why it tastes the way it does.
