Four minutes on foot separate our tap from the brewhouse. Günther and Philipp Huber have been brewing in St. Johann for generations — and their Spezial runs fresh from our tap.
For the wines, Liane drives across Austria to meet the people behind them. For the beer she only has to cross the street. Huber Bräu brews in the middle of St. Johann, in the brewing tower everyone here knows — and that is exactly the beer on our list. “The beer from here” isn’t a slogan for the Hubers; it is simply a statement of place.
Brewing here since 1727
The brewery has been here longer than almost anything else in the village: founded in 1727, in the hands of the Huber family since 1883. Günther Huber, a qualified master brewer, has run it since 1999 — and his son Philipp is already lined up to carry it on. A brewery does not stay in one family across centuries by accident.
They brew to the purity law of 1516: brewing water, barley malt, hops, yeast. Nothing else. That this convinces international juries is shown by 24 gold medals. Though honestly, what matters more to us is what guests say at the bar — and they say it’s good.
We place great value on our long brewing tradition, high-quality ingredients and short transport routes, and in doing so create honest, unadulterated beer specialities.

What comes from our tap and from the bottle
Our beer from here, freshly poured. A Spezial at 5.3% ABV, brewed from brewing water, barley malt and hops — nothing more is needed. The glass that gets ordered first after a long day.
The brewery’s pale lager, known in the village as St. Johanner Original. Unfussy, easy-drinking, dependable — the beer you don’t have to think about.
In several varieties, classically with lemon. The light companion for warm evenings outside — and for anyone taking it a little gentler tonight.
The Huber range holds more: Meisterpils, the wheat beer, and the Augustinus, whose recipe reaches back to 1770. If you’re curious, just ask — Liane is happy to tell you what’s in the house.
Why Huber is a matter of course here
Because there is no reason to truck beer across half of Europe when it is brewed four minutes away. Short routes are no sacrifice — they are the reason the beer reaches the glass fresh.
And because we treat the Hubers as we treat our winemakers: we want to know who stands behind what we pour. With a family running the same brewery since 1883, you don’t have to ask for long — you taste it.
